Italy sets 2026‑27 school start dates region by region

Italy's Ministry of Education has published the 2026‑27 school calendar, with start dates staggered across regions. The first schools reopen on Monday 7 September in the autonomous province of Bolzano, followed by Thursday 10 September for the autonomous province of Trento, Valle d'Aosta and Veneto. The following week, 14 September, lessons resume in Friuli‑Venezia Giulia, Liguria, Lombardy, Marche, Molise, Piemonte and Umbria; on 15 September in Calabria, Campania, Emilia‑Romagna, Lazio, Sicily and Tuscany; on 16 September in Abruzzo, Basilicata and Sardinia; and the final region, Puglia, starts on Thursday 17 September.

The decree also outlines holidays and exam dates. Veneto adjusted its timetable so that the national final exams begin on 16 June 2027, prompting an earlier end to the school year on 8 June 2027 for first‑ and second‑cycle schools in that region. The ministerial ordinance (No. 106, 10 June 2026) sets the written exam for 16 June 2027 nationwide, while schools may shift dates within a minimum of 200 instructional days.
