Italy Supreme Court upholds prison sentence for fatal 2021 crash
The Italian Supreme Court (Corte di cassazione) has upheld a prison sentence of five years and four months for a driver involved in a fatal 2021 collision in San Nicandro Garganico. The driver, identified as G. D. S., was operating a Ford Mustang when he performed an illegal overtaking maneuver on a curve during rainy conditions, crossing into the opposite lane.
The collision with a Fiat Doblò resulted in the deaths of Antonio Russo and Cosma Damiano Chiodi. The court rejected appeals regarding the possibility of emergency maneuvers by the other driver and contested mitigating circumstances, affirming that the defendant's multiple traffic violations and the severity of the conduct justified the original ruling.
