Italy: Veterinarians recognized as key contributors to public health
A survey conducted by YouTrend for Aisa-Federchimica reveals that veterinary prevention is a widespread practice in Italy. Approximately 77% of pet owners perform preventive veterinary visits, with 34% visiting at least every six months and another 34% visiting annually.
Despite the high level of trust in veterinarians—with 88% of Italians trusting their ability to protect animal health and 75% recognizing their role in public health—there is a significant lack of awareness regarding the ‘One Health’ approach. This concept, which integrates human, animal, and environmental health, is unknown to 74% of those surveyed.
Carlo Gazza, President of Aisa-Federchimica, emphasized the importance of coordinating public services, veterinarians, breeders, and owners to implement effective prevention. Marcello Gemmato, Undersecretary of State at the Ministry of Health, added that the One Health approach is a fundamental component of national prevention strategies to prevent various pathologies.
