Italy telephony fraud affects 3.2 million people annually

An investigation by Up Research for Facile.it reveals that over 3.2 million Italians were victims of, or attempted to avoid, telephone-related fraud in the last year, resulting in total damages of 731 billion euros. The most common methods include fake call centers, false emails, and SMS messages. Notably, mobile telephony fraud is most prevalent among younger demographics, specifically those aged 18-24 and 25-34, and individuals with university degrees show double the average incidence rate.

In response to rising fraud, the municipality of Viadana has applied for a regional grant titled ‘Occhio alle truffe – Viadana sicura’ (Watch out for scams – Safe Viadana). The project aims to improve public safety through information and prevention. Planned initiatives include public awareness meetings, the distribution of informative materials, and educational videos. The local police force will play a central role in supporting the community and helping citizens recognize potential risks.
