Italy Third Sector Forum criticizes government security bill

The Forum Terzo Settore has expressed opposition to a pending security and youth welfare bill currently under discussion in the Italian Senate. Spokesperson Giancarlo Moretti argued that the government's approach focuses too heavily on repression and punishment rather than addressing the root causes of social malaise and youth distress.

The Forum noted that recent security measures have not yielded tangible results, pointing to low arrest numbers following recent violent protests. Furthermore, the organization criticized the bill for failing to re-fund the Fund for Combating Minor Educational Poverty, a tool deemed essential for addressing marginalization.

Critics of the legislation suggest the government's focus on public order and increased penalties may be politically motivated, particularly in regions like Lombardy, while neglecting the rising poverty and precariousness in southern Italy.
