Italy to acquire six Astore Levante armed UAVs

The Italian Air Force will acquire six Astore Levante armed unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs). The platform is a specialized version of the Bayraktar TB3, developed through LBA Systems, a joint venture between the Turkish company Baykar and the Italian firm Leonardo.

General Antonio Conserva, Commander of the Italian Air Force, confirmed that the contract is currently in effect. The procurement includes three systems, each equipped with a ground control station capable of managing two UAVs. The Astore Levante is intended to modernize Italy's unmanned capabilities, supporting intelligence, surveillance, reconnaissance (ISR) missions and pilot training, while eventually replacing the Predator MQ1.

The platform is expected to complete its European certification process by late 2026 or early 2027, a milestone necessary for potential sales to other European nations. While initial configurations featured Turkish munitions, such as Roketsan guided bombs and Baykar cruise missiles, Italy is also exploring the integration of European weaponry through activities with MBDA and various Italian industrial groups.
