Italy to allow 24‑hour electricity and gas supplier switches from Dec 2026

From 1 December 2026 Italian electricity and gas customers will be able to change their supplier in 24 hours on any day of the month. The reform is defined by ARERA’s decree 58/2026 and is intended to speed up the switching process and make the market more consumer‑friendly.

Assocompara, the association of price‑comparison portals, says the change will increase the importance of online comparators. The group, which includes about 20 sites such as Segugio.it, Facile.it and Trovaprezzi, reaches over 30 million users each month. It argues that comparators provide objective analysis of bills, highlight genuine savings – which occur for roughly one in ten customers – and simplify the complex range of offers.

Paolo Benazzi, General Manager of Utilities at Segugio.it and spokesperson for Assocompara, stresses that the new 24‑hour switch will protect consumers from unfair practices and give them clearer, faster choices in the energy market.
