Italy to host events addressing women's economic independence and gender violence
Italy will host two distinct events on October 16 focused on gender-based violence and women's autonomy. In Civitanova Marche, the first national forum dedicated to women's economic independence will take place. Promoted by Banco Marchigiano, the forum addresses economic violence, where women are denied control over their own finances. Data indicates that 13.6% of Italian women living with a partner do not consider themselves economically autonomous, and 42.4% of those report experiencing economic violence. Economist and former Minister Elsa Fornero is expected to participate in discussions regarding the link between economic autonomy, labor, and the female condition.
Simultaneously, in Rome, the short film ‘Oltre il riflesso – Diario di una dipendenza affettiva’ will have its premiere at The Cineclub. Written, directed, and starring Elvira Gigante, the film explores the dynamics of coercive control and domestic violence. The screening aims to highlight the psychological impact of domestic control and the social emergency of women facing these struggles in isolation.
