Italy to illuminate monuments in blue for Cystic Fibrosis Day
To mark World Cystic Fibrosis Day on September 8, the Lega Italiana Fibrosi Cistica (LIFC) is leading a national campaign in Italy to raise awareness for the genetic disease. The initiative involves illuminating various monuments and symbolic landmarks across the country in blue, the campaign's symbolic color.
Participating sites include the Statue of David in Florence, the Teatro Massimo in Palermo, the Mole Antonelliana in Turin, and the Torre del Popolo in Assisi. The campaign aims to highlight the challenges of a condition that affects over 6,000 people in Italy.
Because cystic fibrosis is often an “invisible disease” without obvious external symptoms, it can be misunderstood. The condition progressively compromises the respiratory and digestive systems, requiring intensive daily therapies and impacting the personal, social, and professional lives of those affected. LIFC President Antonio Guarini stated the goal is to increase awareness of this complex and serious illness to help break down social and cultural barriers.
