Italy to introduce Wednesday lottery draws in 2027
The Italian Budget Law proposes adding a fifth weekly draw for Lotto and SuperEnalotto on Wednesdays, starting in 2027. This change aims to increase state revenue by expanding the current drawing schedule, which currently includes Tuesday, Thursday, Friday, and Saturday.
Technical estimates suggest the move could generate approximately 30.5 million euros in 2027, rising to 43.1 million euros annually in 2028 and 2029. The total projected revenue over three years is 116.7 million euros, based on an expected 4% growth in collections.
Following the law's approval, the Customs and Monopolies Agency will have 60 days to establish operational rules, with an additional five weeks required for technical implementation. While the move is intended to boost public funds, it has sparked debate regarding its potential social impact.
