Italy to observe World Day of the Poor with local initiatives

Various regions in Italy are preparing for the 10th World Day of the Poor, featuring religious observances and social welfare initiatives.

In the Diocese of Lamezia Terme, events scheduled for November 6 include the inauguration of ‘L’Oasi di Elim’, a new reception house designed to provide temporary shelter for women and infants in fragile situations. The program also includes a reflection session on emerging forms of poverty in the territory.

In Gallipoli, the Charity Week 2026 will commence on November 14. Organized by the San Francesco d’Assisi Charity House Association, the week includes a community lunch and a focus on food waste and European regulations. Key events include a prayer vigil on November 19 led by Cardinal Domenico Battaglia and the inauguration of the ‘Sant’Agata’ Community Solidarity Emporium on November 20, located in a former wholesale fish market.
