Italy tourism faces decline due to fuel costs and inflation
Rising fuel prices and inflation are impacting the Italian tourism sector, leading to concerns regarding a decline in holiday travel. According to a study by CST for Assoturismo-Confesercenti, nearly 60% of operators anticipate either a decrease or stagnation in demand for the upcoming holiday season, spanning from November through Christmas.
Industry representatives report a general slowdown in bookings and increased uncertainty. High fuel costs are particularly affecting regions that rely heavily on road travel, such as the South and various islands. Additionally, hospitality providers are facing reduced profit margins due to elevated energy costs and the necessity of maintaining air conditioning during summer months.
