Italy tourism hits historic record in 2026 summer season
Italy's tourism sector reached a historic peak during the 2026 summer season, recording 72.4 million arrivals and 276 million overnight stays. This surge was primarily driven by an influx of international travelers, though domestic tourism remained stable.
Regional highlights included Puglia, which emerged as a top destination, alongside strong performance in Sicily and Sardinia. In the Lazio region, tourism saw significant growth, with online bookings increasing by 16.3% compared to the previous year. Local strategies in Lazio, such as the Festival dell’Appia Regina Viarum and various cultural and gastronomic events, helped distribute visitor flows across smaller municipalities and historical sites.
