Italy tourism sector reaches record presence levels

Italy's tourism sector has achieved significant growth, with 523.7 million presences recorded in the first nine months of 2026. This represents a 4.7% increase compared to 2025, a year that previously set a record of 535.5 million presences. These figures allow Italy to surpass major competitors such as France and Spain in terms of tourism volume.

The sector currently accounts for 13% of Italy's GDP and employs approximately 3.3 million people. Minister of Tourism Gianmarco Mazzi highlighted that the industry is a strategic driver for national growth, employment, and territorial development. To support this momentum, the Ministry of Tourism has allocated over 4 billion euros to assist businesses and facilitate digital and sustainable transitions.

Investment strategies have focused on diversifying offerings, including mountain tourism, UNESCO sites, and sustainable travel. For instance, investments in small municipalities and camping infrastructure have demonstrated high economic multiplier effects, generating significant value for every euro of public funding invested.
