Italy tourism trends show extended seasons for spas and coasts
Italy is seeing a trend toward extended tourism seasons, with both thermal spa and coastal sectors reporting strong activity beyond the traditional summer months.
Federterme predicts a boom in thermal tourism for September and October, estimating 521,000 arrivals at thermal hotels. This represents a projected growth of 0.5%, with an average stay of four days. Renzo Iorio, President of Federterme, noted that the sector remains solid, as travelers increasingly seek destinations that combine health, prevention, and wellness with relaxation.
Similarly, coastal areas are experiencing high demand late into the season. In Termoli, the first weekend of September saw record crowds, with temperatures reaching 36 degrees Celsius. Local operators, including Sib President Nico Venditti, have noted that the bathing season can no longer be considered finished by August 31. This shift is prompting calls to extend maritime safety services and shuttle transport to accommodate the changing climate and tourist behavior.
