Italy transport updates: Marsica bus changes and free travel in Marsala

In Italy, local transport services are undergoing changes due to sporting events and mobility initiatives.

In the Marsica region, TUA has announced significant modifications to bus schedules and routes on September 17, 2026, to accommodate the third stage of the Giro d’Abruzzo cycling race. The race, running from Oricola and the Piana del Cavaliere to San Benedetto dei Marsi, will necessitate several service suppressions and route variations to ensure safety. Affected routes include connections between Carsoli, Oricola, Pereto, Tagliacozzo, Sante Marie, Avezzano, and Massa d’Albe.

Meanwhile, in Marsala, urban bus services will be free of charge from September 16 to September 22, 2026, in observance of European Mobility Week. The initiative, themed ‘Mobility for All,’ aims to encourage residents to use public transit instead of private vehicles. Mayor Andreana Patti noted that the administration is currently reviewing the public transport system to improve its quality, sustainability, and digital integration, acknowledging that the current service level is not yet satisfactory.
