Italy: Two youths injured in separate water accidents

A 17‑year‑old foreign teenager jumped from a pier in Jesolo during low tide, struck the seabed, and suffered a severe cervical trauma that led to cardiac arrest. He was rescued by friends, received immediate resuscitation, was intubated and transferred to the neuro‑surgery department of the Angelo Hospital in Mestre, where he remains in serious condition.

In Palazzolo sull’Oglio, a 21‑year‑old man of Moroccan origin was swept away by the current of the Oglio River while swimming with friends. His companions called emergency services; the Red Cross, an ambulance and fire‑fighters rescued him and he was taken to Chiari Hospital in yellow code. His condition is reported as not serious.

Both incidents highlight the dangers of swimming or diving in shallow or fast‑moving water, especially at night or during high temperatures, and the importance of adhering to posted safety warnings on piers and riverbanks.
