Italy Under-17 volleyball team defeats Romania 3-0 in World Championship opener

The Italy Under-17 men's national volleyball team opened their 2026 World Championship campaign in Doha, Qatar, with a 3-0 victory over Romania. The defending champions won the match with set scores of 26-24, 25-22, and 25-21.

Federico Guiotto led the Italian scoring with 16 points, while Samuele Filippi contributed 10 points. Italy's performance was bolstered by strong blocking, recording 12 block points compared to Romania's 5. Despite Romania maintaining close scores in the first and second sets, Italy managed to secure decisive leads in the closing stages of each frame.

Italy's next match in Pool B is scheduled for Friday, August 21, against India, followed by a group stage finale against Cuba on Sunday, August 23.
