Italy updates Assegno Unico welfare rules for 2026

Significant changes are coming to Italy’s social welfare benefits in 2026, specifically regarding the Assegno Unico e Universale (AUU). The updates primarily affect non-resident workers in Italy and children living in other European Union countries.

Under the updated rules, minors remain eligible for the benefit until they reach adulthood. For children aged 18 to 21, eligibility requires being part of the ISEE household with an annual income below 8,000 euros, while also meeting specific criteria such as attending school, participating in training, or being registered as unemployed.

Orphans of both parents up to age 21 may now apply for the benefit directly without intermediaries. Children with disabilities, both minors and adults, maintain eligibility without age limits or the standard study and work requirements, provided they meet specific ISEE or fiscal dependency criteria.
