Italy: Updates on the Scazzi and Pinna criminal investigations

In Italy, two distinct criminal cases continue to draw attention. Sixteen years after the disappearance and murder of 15-year-old Sarah Scazzi in Avetrana, the case remains a significant point of public interest. Following the discovery of her body in a rural well in 2010, Cosima Serrano and Sabrina Misseri were sentenced to life imprisonment for kidnapping and voluntary homicide. Michele Misseri was also convicted for concealing the body and was released from prison in February 2024. The complex family drama has recently been adapted into a television miniseries titled ‘Qui non è Hollywood’ on Disney+.

Separately, in Arzachena, legal proceedings are advancing in the case of Cinzia Pinna, who was killed in September 2025. Prosecutors in Tempio have decided not to release the crime scene property, as magistrates and experts may conduct new inspections. The defense has submitted reports from experts Ernesto D'Aloja and Dario Radaelli, which offer a counter-reconstruction of the event. While forensic experts suggest the victim was shot while lying helpless on a sofa, the defense argues she was moving toward the defendant, Emanuele Ragnedda. Ragnedda maintains he acted in self-defense during an assault.
