Italy updates plans for historic villas and archaeological sites

In Lecce, the municipal government has approved a redevelopment project for the Villa Comunale Giuseppe Garibaldi. The project, to be funded by the concessionaire Andiamo Srl, includes converting the former caretaker's house into a restaurant, restoring the bar and toy library, and improving park facilities. The initiative aims to enhance the 34,000-square-meter site as a social and cultural hub while preserving its historical and architectural heritage.

In Sicily, Carmelo Nicotra, director of the Morgantina and Villa Romana del Casale Archaeological Park, addressed concerns regarding the site's maintenance. Following a severe storm on September 15, Nicotra denied reports that mosaics were damaged by mud and debris, stating that rainwater was promptly removed and no internal infiltration occurred. He noted that roof systems are monitored year-round, including via drones, and announced that executive designs for replacing old roofing are expected by October 15.
