Italy urges EU action to save chemical industry competitiveness
Italian Minister of Enterprises and Made in Italy, Adolfo Urso, has called for immediate European action to address the crisis facing the chemical sector. During a remote meeting with European counterparts, Urso urged a common front to protect basic chemical production and restore the industry's competitiveness.
Urso emphasized the need for pragmatic results following the Commission's adoption of the Chemicals Industry Action Plan and the creation of the EU Critical Chemicals Alliance (CCA). He advocated for the recognition of critical molecules to guide policy and the strengthening of trade defense tools for strategic substances.
Key priorities include supporting the transition of non-competitive strategic production plants through the future European Competitiveness Fund and integrating biochemistry into the upcoming Circular Economy Act.
