Italy urges EU digital reforms: platforms must protect minors, AI governance

Member of the European Parliament Sandro Ruotello (PD) announced that the EU Parliament’s Culture Committee approved a report calling for online platforms to adapt their services to the needs of children and teenagers. He said the paradigm has shifted from families and institutions adapting to platforms, to platforms having to create a safe and habitable digital environment for minors.

Italy’s vice‑minister for foreign affairs and international cooperation, Edmondo Cirielli, emphasised that digitalisation and artificial intelligence represent fundamental challenges for Europe’s future, both economically and for e‑governance. He highlighted the Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ active role in shaping regulation and supporting the Italian digital industry at the international level.
