Italy vehicle incentives: no purchase subsidies for 2026
In 2026, Italy will lack state contributions for the purchase of new electric or hybrid vehicles, as PNRR funds have been fully exhausted. Instead, available state support is primarily focused on retrofit options, providing 400 euros for LPG installations and 800 euros for methane systems on eligible vehicles.
Vehicle tax (bollo) exemptions and reductions vary significantly by region. While some areas offer permanent exemptions for electric or hydrogen vehicles, others provide time-limited benefits or reductions for hybrids. For example, in Lombardy, electric vehicles enjoy permanent tax exemptions, while new hybrids registered since 2021 receive a 50% reduction for five years. Other regions, such as Piedmont, offer exemptions for electric and LPG vehicles, whereas in Lazio, exemptions for new hybrids have ended.
While private passenger car purchase incentives are absent, specific funds remain for commercial vehicles, electric motorcycles, and scooters. For commercial vehicles, contributions ranging from 2,000 to 20,000 euros are available based on weight and fuel type.
