Italy vehicle ownership transfer costs and tax structures

Transferring vehicle ownership in Italy involves several fixed and variable costs. Fixed components include a 32 euro stamp duty for PRA registration, 10.20 euro for Motorizzazione Civile rights, 27 euro in ACI fees, 16 euro for the Single Document, and 16 euro for signature authentication, totaling 101.20 euro.

The primary cost driver is the Provincial Transcription Tax (IPT). For vehicles up to 53 kW, the base rate is 150.81 euro, though provinces may increase this by up to 30%. For vehicles exceeding 53 kW, the tax is calculated proportionally at a national reference rate of 3.56 euro per kW, which can rise to 4.63 euro per kW depending on provincial surcharges.

For example, a 75 kW vehicle may incur an IPT of up to 347.25 euro, bringing the total cost to 448.45 euro. A 150 kW vehicle can see an IPT of 694.50 euro, pushing the total cost above 795 euro.
