Italian travelers warned of card fraud risks abroad

(Adnkronos) – A study by Facile.it using Eurostat and mUp Research data shows that Italy processes about 1.4 billion electronic payments each month, while more than 2 million Italians suffered a card‑related fraud or attempted fraud in the past year. In response, experts have compiled ten practical tips to help travellers use credit, debit or prepaid cards safely abroad. The advice includes: enabling the card for foreign use before departure; adjusting daily, weekly or monthly spending and cash‑withdrawal limits; carrying a physical card in addition to mobile‑payment options; safeguarding PINs and login credentials; selecting the appropriate card type for rentals, hotel deposits and other services; and being aware of hidden fees and potential scams.

The guidance aims to reduce the risk of scams and extra charges as millions of Italians head on holiday, emphasizing proactive steps that banks and users can take to protect their funds while travelling overseas.
