Italy wins women's team foil gold at European Fencing Championships
The Italian women's foil team – Arianna Errigo, Martina Batini, Anna Cristino and Martina Favaretto – captured the gold medal at the European Fencing Championships in Antony, France, defeating the host nation 45‑31. Errigo said the squad was “bravissime” and “continueremo a riprovarci”, while Cristino added, “Siamo una squadra e il risultato è la somma di ciò che facciamo tutte”. Italy entered the final after a 45‑22 semifinal win over Ukraine and a 45‑27 quarter‑final victory against Poland. The triumph extends Italy’s streak of European titles in women's foil. In the same competition, Italy’s men’s foil team saw Tommaso Martini sit out for precautionary reasons and was replaced by reserve Giulio Lombardi, and the Italian men’s sabre squad earned bronze. The medal haul solidifies Italy’s leading position in the overall fencing medal table.
