Shanghai Track Cycling World Championships: Italian athletes secure top placements
During the penultimate days of the 2026 Track Cycling World Championships in Shanghai, Italian athletes secured several notable placements despite missing out on new medals in recent sessions.
In the women’s individual pursuit, Martina Alzini finished fourth, losing the bronze medal to Germany’s Lisa Klein. In the men’s omnium, Simone Consonni achieved a fifth-place finish after a strong performance in the final points race. The Olympic champion duo of Chiara Consonni and Vittoria Guazzini placed sixth in the Madison, narrowly missing the podium after failing to secure a lap advantage.
Earlier in the championships, the Italian team had achieved significant success, including a gold medal by Jonathan Milan in the individual pursuit and two silver medals in the team pursuits for both men and women. The Italian delegation concludes the event with a total of four medals: one gold, two silvers, and one bronze.
