Italy's Amalfi Coast and Collegiove hit by prolonged telephone and internet outages
Residents and businesses along the Amalfi Coast have been without fixed‑line telephone service and fiber‑optic internet since yesterday. Modems for hundreds of households, hotels and offices report no optical signal, forcing tourism operators and local merchants to halt online bookings and payments. No official explanation has been provided regarding the cause, the geographical scope or the timeline for repairs, and mobile coverage in some sections of the coast is insufficient to compensate for the loss.
In the mountain town of Collegiove, the outage has lasted ten days, affecting the municipal office, post office, medical clinic and local economy. Mayor Domenico Manzocchi warned that the disruption threatens public safety and the right to essential services, saying “non si tratta soltanto di un disagio… il diritto a comunicare non può dipendere dal luogo in cui si vive.” He has called on telecom operators and authorities for urgent intervention and a plan to improve permanent mobile coverage in the area.
