Italy's Anas road works cause traffic delays in Sicily and Piedmont

From 21 to 23 July, Anas will restrict the right‑hand lane of the Siracusa‑Catania A19 motorway between km 4.750 and km 7.700, including the emergency lane, to allow inspections inside the San Demetrio tunnel. The limitation will affect traffic in both directions from 09:00 to 18:00. The tunnel work is part of a wider modernization programme on Sicily’s highway network, with 64 interventions and an investment of more than €913 million aimed at completing 80 % of the plan by the end of 2026.

In Alessandria, works on the State Road 30 have created long queues during peak hours. A driver reported a 49‑minute crossing time on a weekday morning. The works, which began at the start of the week, involve lane reductions, alternating one‑way traffic and temporary closures of access ramps to the A26 toward Acqui Terme. They are scheduled to continue until 25 July, with work suspended on weekends. After the excavation phase, resurfacing of the section is planned to start on 25 September.
