Italy's beauty market pivots to wellness, longevity and authentic self‑care

Industry observers say the Italian beauty sector is expanding beyond traditional cosmetics to embrace health, wellness and longevity. Retail Hub founder Massimo Volpe highlighted that the global wellness economy now exceeds $6.8 trillion and that segments such as preventive care, nutrition, spa services and medical beauty are driving growth. He described the sector as a "laboratory of retail innovation" where beauty merges with technology, hospitality and entertainment.

A survey by fashion retailer Gruppo Teddy of 5,800 Italian consumers found that 44 % equate beauty with personal well‑being, while 23.7 % link it to the freedom to express their own style. Eighty‑three percent say dressing well improves their mood, and comfort, fit and how a garment makes them feel outweigh brand name or trends. Despite robust e‑commerce growth, 77.6 % still prefer to shop in physical stores, underscoring the continued importance of in‑person retail experiences.

Both reports illustrate a broader shift in Italy from aesthetic perfection toward an integrated approach to self‑care and authenticity in beauty and fashion.
