Italy's Carta del docente introduces new rules and reduced bonus

New regulations and deadlines have been established for the ‘Carta del docente’, a bonus intended for the training and professional development of Italian teachers and school staff. The deadline to utilize the remaining credit from the 2024/25 school year is August 31, 2026.

The annual bonus amount is being reduced from 500 euros to 383 euros for 2026. Significant changes have also been introduced regarding the purchase of electronic devices. A new rule mandates a four-year interval between the purchase of hardware—such as computers, tablets, or notebooks—and software, and the subsequent use of the card for the same category of products. For example, a teacher purchasing hardware in 2026 will not be able to use the bonus for similar products again until 2030.

Regarding platform availability, the portal has issued a notice stating that access will be temporarily suspended after August 31, 2026, to allow for technical system updates in preparation for the 2026/2027 school year. While the 2024/25 residual funds must be spent by the specified deadline, the 383-euro credit for the 2025/26 school year will remain available in the balance.
