Italy's Court of Cassation upholds life sentence for Innocent Oseghale
Italy's Court of Cassation has definitively upheld the life sentence for Innocent Oseghale regarding the 2018 murder of 19-year-old Pamela Mastropietro in Macerata.
The Supreme Court rejected the defense's appeal and upheld the aggravating factor of sexual violence. The court determined that the sexual encounter was not consensual, as the victim resisted after the effects of drugs wore off. Oseghale had previously admitted to sexual contact but claimed it was consensual; however, judges ruled it constituted rape, which is a decisive factor for the maximum penalty.
The case dates back to January 30, 2018, when Mastropietro was killed with two knife wounds and her body was subsequently mutilated and an attempt was made to burn it. The victim's mother expressed satisfaction with the final ruling, noting the long judicial process.
