Italy's Defense Minister criticizes US limits on Ukraine intelligence

Italian Defense Minister Guido Crosetto has criticized the United States for potentially limiting Ukraine's access to satellite systems and intelligence. Speaking to the BBC, Crosetto described such restrictions by the Trump administration as a “complete error” and a “grave error” that lacks sense. He warned that depriving Ukraine of these resources creates perceived weakness, which could embolden Vladimir Putin to continue the invasion rather than seeking a stalemate that leads to peace.

Crosetto emphasized that Italian military support will continue for the duration of the current government, despite noting that securing parliamentary approval for further deliveries may become more difficult as elections approach. He also attributed skepticism regarding aid in Italy to Russian disinformation campaigns designed to weaken political opposition to Russia.

These remarks follow recent criticisms from Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, who described a Trump agreement to purchase Russian diesel as a “very risky decision” that could grant legitimacy to Russia while it continues its bombardment of Ukrainian cities.
