Italy's Democratic Party in crisis as provincial secretaries reshuffle
The Democratic Party (PD) in Italy is described as being in a state of chronic dysfunction, with accusations of internal corruption, vote‑trading and opaque appointments. Party secretary Marco Alaia, appointed by regional councilor Maurizio Petracca, has reportedly withdrawn from public view, and the party leadership has been criticised for silence on alleged wrongdoing in municipalities such as Castellammare, Ercolano and Avellino.
In the province of Frosinone, the PD has officially announced a new provincial secretariat. Provincial secretary Achille Migliorelli named Nazzareno Pilozzi as vice‑secretary, with Elsa De Angelis, Diego Cecconi, Ivan Quatrana and many local administrators and mayors filling other key roles. The reorganisation aims to prepare the party for upcoming provincial, regional and municipal elections.
Both pieces illustrate the party's internal turmoil and its attempts to restructure ahead of future electoral contests.
