Italy's Economy Minister Giorgetti Sets Budget Focus on Middle‑Income Tax Relief, Green Energy and Defence
Finance Minister Giancarlo Giorgetti outlined the main strands of Italy's upcoming budget law. He said fiscal measures will target middle‑high income earners, complementing earlier relief for lower brackets, while allocating resources to renewable‑energy projects such as heating and cooling systems for public buildings.
Giorgetti also announced a significant increase in defence spending, estimating an extra €19 billion (about 0.3%‑0.6% of GDP) over the next two years. The government is considering using EU SAFE (Security for Action Europe) funds for this boost, a matter that will be debated in Parliament amid concerns over bureaucracy and shared decision‑making with European partners.
