Italy's economy shows mixed recovery signs amid rising stock market value and regional corporate divergence
The value of companies listed on Italy's Piazza Affari rose 18.9% in the past year, surpassing €900 billion, with foreign investors now holding over 51% of the capital. Family, corporate, bank and state holdings also increased. Inflation eased to 2.8% year‑on‑year in July, and GDP growth accelerated to a 1% trend in the second quarter. A new fuel‑subsidy decree will raise public spending on diesel and gasoline to about €2.1 billion from 2026, while bank credit to households and firms grew by €33 billion in a year.
In the Umbria region, corporate data for 2025 reveal a split picture. Companies in Terni improved efficiency, with the EBITDA margin jumping from 7.6% to 10% despite a 24.6% drop in production volume and reduced capital stock. Conversely, firms in Perugia pursued growth, expanding material assets by 18.9% and raising production value by 7.5%, while the EBITDA margin held at 8.5%. Overall, added value per firm in Umbria increased by 11.2%, outpacing declines in the rest of Italy.
