Italy's Ferragosto Holiday Sparks Nationwide Break and Hotel Festivities
Ferragosto, observed on August 15, is Italy's national public holiday rooted in the Roman "Feriae Augusti" instituted by Emperor Augustus and the Catholic Feast of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary. On this day virtually all businesses, government offices and services close, prompting widespread travel to coastal resorts, mountain villages and family homes for outdoor meals and leisure.
Hospitality group Falkensteiner Hotels & Residences has organised a series of events across its Italian and Austrian venues. In Jesolo the hotel hosts an Italian Summer Night with a grand buffet and live music. At the Kronplatz resort a fashion show, pool party and gala dinner are scheduled, while the Family Resort Lido offers forest excursions, water games and a White Party for children and families. In Carinthia the chain presents a family‑oriented programme of workshops, garden parties and live music. The celebrations underline Ferragosto’s blend of historical tradition, religious observance and contemporary summer tourism.
