Italy's football leaders call for greater youth opportunities

Former defender and Italy Under‑21 coach Andrea Barzagli said the country has many talented young players but lacks a clear pathway to first‑team football. He urged clubs to give youngsters more chances to make mistakes, gain experience and receive the “courage” to trust them, citing players such as Pio Esposito, Bartesaghi and others emerging from Serie B.

Talent scout Michele Fratini echoed the call for more opportunities, praising Fiorentina’s recent victory and highlighting emerging prospects like Iraola and veteran striker Alessandro Grosso. He also commended coaches such as Silvio Baldini for promoting youth and stressed that giving young players a platform is essential for the sport’s sustainability in Italy.
