Tajani Confirms Villa Taverna Attendance, Defends Italy‑US Ties

Italian Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani announced that he and other government representatives will attend the Independence Day reception at Villa Taverna on 4 July, saying Italy will go "head high and back straight". He stressed that transatlantic relations are a cornerstone of Italy’s foreign policy and that the country will continue to work with the United States despite recent remarks by President Donald Trump.

Tajani denied that Italy has allowed U.S. bases on its territory to be used for attacks on Iran, stating that any U.S. flights are limited to logistical use under treaty provisions and that he has communicated this to Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi. He also called for an end to fighting in Lebanon, noting Hezbollah’s links to Iran and Italy’s readiness to help stabilize the country after a cease‑fire.

Domestically, Tajani said his leadership of Forza Italia is not in jeopardy, referring to an upcoming party congress and outlining his view on upcoming local elections and mayoral candidacies in major Italian cities.
