Italy's Health Workers Contract Renewal Raises Nurse Pay by €240

Italy's national collective labor contract for the health sector (2025‑2027) was signed, covering 592,638 employees of the Servizio Sanitario Nazionale, including nurses, technical and administrative staff. The agreement provides an average salary increase of €209 per month, with nurses receiving a €240 rise—over 8%—and retroactive payments of about €2,300 per nurse effective from 1 January 2025. Funding includes €1.537 billion from the 2027 budget plus additional allocations for specific allowances, such as €445 million for a nursing specificity allowance.

The contract introduces a dedicated AI section, obliging health companies using artificial‑intelligence systems to inform staff about purposes, data handling and performance impacts, while retaining human responsibility for legal employment decisions. It also adds new professional profiles, including a cyber‑security role, and revises assignment rules to better value competencies.

Pierpaolo Volpe, president of the Order of Nursing Professions in Taranto, welcomed the early renewal, highlighting the €240 increase and urging that similar terms be extended to private‑sector nurses and residential care facilities. He called on Health Minister Orazio Schillaci to prioritize private‑sector contract renewal and praised Public Administration Minister Paolo Zangrillo for his support.
