Italy's historic palazzi transformed into luxury hotels

Italy offers a variety of luxury accommodations housed within historic palazzi, many of which date back to the La Belle Époque period. These former aristocratic family homes have been preserved and converted into high-end hotels that maintain their historical character.

In Bernalda, located in the Basilicata region, Palazzo Margherita serves as an exclusive nine-room retreat. Originally built in 1892, the estate was purchased in 2004 by filmmaker Francis Ford Coppola. The restoration, led by decorator Jacques Grange, focused on preserving original features such as frescoes, stucco ornaments, and parquet flooring while integrating modern luxury.

Other notable historic stays include Villa Spalletti Trivelli in Rome, a noble family home near the Quirinale Palace that features antique furnishings and a marble spa. Additionally, the Grand Hotel Villa Serbelloni on Lake Como provides a 19th-century setting that has historically hosted royalty and statesmen.
