Italy's hospitality sector pivots to climate‑aware bookings and digital automation

New research shows that rising summer temperatures are reshaping Italian travellers' booking behaviour. 79% of respondents now factor weather forecasts into destination choice, 33% rank climate as a primary selection criterion and 45% would switch to a cooler alternative when extreme heat is expected. Demand is shifting toward mountain, lake and northern European locations, and travellers value flexible cancellation policies and the ability to amend itineraries after purchase.

At the same time, the Italian hospitality industry is accelerating digital transformation. Operators are deploying smart‑lock systems that allow remote, smartphone‑based entry, eliminating physical keys and streamlining check‑in. Advanced energy‑monitoring and domotics solutions are being installed to optimise consumption, cut costs and reduce environmental impact. Virtual assistants and other intelligent services are further personalising the guest experience, while overall automation improves internal efficiency.
