Italy's Infrastructure Ministry launches technical working group to upgrade SS 1 Aurelia safety

The Italian Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport, together with the Lazio regional government and state road operator ANAS, has opened a technical working group to examine safety problems on the historic SS 1 Aurelia corridor. The panel, convened after a meeting in Rome that included Minister Manfredi Potenti, ANAS CEO Claudio Gemme and other officials, will identify priority interventions to improve road safety, traffic flow and overall service quality on the heavily used artery.

Separately, experts note that road safety in Italy also depends heavily on user behaviour. Recent data from the Bergamo province show a high number of traffic accidents, injuries and fatalities, underscoring the need for greater driver prudence, better adherence to traffic rules and broader adoption of measures such as car‑pooling and infrastructure maintenance.
