Italian IO App Guides Users to Access Electronic Health Records

The Ministry of Health has added a message to the IO app prompting citizens to view their Fascicolo Sanitario Elettronico (FSE). The app does not store health data; instead it redirects users to the national FSE portal where they must choose their region and authenticate with SPID, the electronic identity card (CIE) or the national service card (CNS).

The FSE provides clinical documents such as lab reports, prescriptions, vaccination certificates and, in some regions, additional services like appointment booking or ticket payments. Usage of the service varies widely across Italy: the national average is 26.5%, with Veneto at 64.1%, Tuscany at 51.4% and Basilicata at 1.2%. Recent updates include a synthetic health profile summarising key health information for emergencies.
