Italy's ISTAT shows June 2026 consumer confidence dip as business confidence rises
ISTAT reported that Italy's consumer confidence index fell in June 2026, dropping from 93.4 to 92.4. While the overall climate among consumers weakened, there were modest improvements in the economic outlook (86.2 to 87.6) and future expectations (87.2 to 87.4). Personal and current confidence scores declined, moving from 96.0 to 94.2 and from 98.0 to 96.2 respectively.
Conversely, the composite business confidence index increased from 94.2 to 95.2. All surveyed sectors recorded gains: manufacturing rose from 87.9 to 88.4, construction from 99.4 to 101.7, services from 96.8 to 97.2, and retail from 101.3 to 105.5. Component analysis showed mixed trends, with manufacturing order judgments worsening while production expectations improved, and retail variables moving positively across both large‑scale and traditional outlets.
