Italy's Labour Minister Calderone Announces Positive Employment Trends and Policy Gains

Labour Minister Marina Calderone told Adnkronos that Italy’s employment figures are in a positive phase but need to be consolidated. She highlighted productive dialogue with unions, noting that despite disagreements the social partners are working together on measures such as the 2025 Decree 159 and the May 1 decree, which provide incentives for hiring and ensure contracts are renewed on time, with temporary indemnities if renewal is delayed. Calderone cited the 2026 State Budget’s allocation of €2 billion to support workers.

A separate report from the Italian Federation of Industries (FDI) underlined that female employment has risen above 54% nationally, boosted by comprehensive policies including 80% parental leave, the Single Allowance, maternity de‑contributions, the Bonus Mamma, expanded childcare facilities and nearly €1 billion in incentives from the May 1 decree for firms hiring women, especially older workers and in the South. The data suggest the government’s strategy of linking family support with labour market measures is bearing fruit.
