Italy's Lake Como and Lake Garda tourism figures compared
Lake Como in Lombardy and Lake Garda, spanning Veneto, Lombardy and Trentino‑Alto Adige, are Italy's most visited lakes. Both have drawn tourists since Roman times and saw organized tourism develop in the 19th century. In 2024 the two lakes recorded very different overnight‑stay totals: Lake Como logged 4.3 million nights, while Lake Garda counted 14.7 million nights on its Veneto shore alone.
Lake Como is famed for luxury accommodation, celebrity visits and film locations. The Passalacqua hotel was judged the world’s best in 2023 and remains among the top five. Historic sites include Villa Carlotta’s botanical garden and Villa del Balbianello, which featured in "Casino Royale" and "Star Wars: Episode II".
