Terna CEO Monti discusses grid investments and energy costs
At the Portofino Talks 2026, Terna CEO and General Manager Pasqualino Monti addressed the strategic importance of the electrical transmission network for Italy's economic competitiveness.
Monti noted that transmission costs account for approximately 4% of a typical family's electricity bill. He emphasized that ongoing investments in the grid are designed not only to enhance system security but also to create conditions that may lower energy costs over time. While acknowledging that Italy remains heavily dependent on foreign energy supplies, Monti stated that gas remains an indispensable source for short-term system security.
