Italy's Mimit opens IPCEI BioChem funding call
The Ministry of Enterprises and Made in Italy (Mimit) has issued a public notice inviting Italian companies to submit expressions of interest for projects under the EU‑backed IPCEI BioChem programme. The call targets high‑technology initiatives in the biotech and bio‑based chemicals value chains, emphasizing research and development, industrial decarbonisation, circular production and the development of biomanufacturing capabilities, with special focus on SMEs, scale‑ups and specialist skill growth.
Proposals must have eligible costs of at least €35 million, while the European Commission favours projects that would receive a minimum of €50 million in support. Applications are to be sent via certified email to Mimit by 24 September 2026. Successful candidates will move to a matchmaking stage to build a European partnership, after which the Ministry will forward a formal request to the European Commission for state‑aid approval under EU rules.
